Grass Lake Community Schools Family,
I am excited to announce that we have recently received correspondence from our friends at Jackson Magazine. In the interest of “Telling Our Story”, I wanted to share this recognition with our community. The following teachers from the Grass Lake Community Schools have been formally selected as part of the Top Ten in Jackson Magazine's 2025 Top Teachers program:
· Dakota Bahlau – George Long Elementary
· Courtney Byers – Grass Lake High School
· Jennifer Taylor – George Long Elementary
Each year, Jackson Magazine celebrates the exceptional educators in Jackson County who demonstrate unwavering commitment to our area’s youth through the Top Teachers program. Through a committee-led selection process, outstanding teachers are recognized as the Top 10 Teachers in Jackson County. From this group, the Top Five Teachers are chosen, and one is awarded the prestigious title of Teacher of the Year. The next phase of the program involves hosting two Classroom Observations for each of the top ten teachers. Dakota, Courtney and Jennifer will be honored in the May issue of Jackson Magazine and celebrated at the Top Teachers Award Ceremony on May 6.
Thanks to a partnership with the Jackson Community Foundation (JCF), the Hurst Foundation, and the Patricia Stinson Trosin Endowment Fund at JCF, the 2025 Teacher of the Year will receive a $5,000 award. The remaining four teachers in the Top 5 will each receive a $1,000 grant for use in their classroom and/or for professional development.
We could not be more proud of our staff and these three exemplify what makes our schools a special place. They are student centered teachers who are passionate about helping children be the best version of themselves.
Proud Superintendent,
Dr. Nicholas Angel
